Wildfire

Dear Readers,

Once again, my work has been published in Wildfire Magazine. My piece “I Want to Be You” appears in their February / March ’23 “Five Years & Counting” issue.

That brief encounter described in the piece happened when I was at a Breast Cancer Awareness / Fundraising event last fall. The group was a mix of survivors, friends, and representatives from various organizations. Apart from team uniforms and corporate logos, there was little you could discern about any person next to you in the crowd. You only knew she was yet another woman whose life had been affected by this disease in some unspecified way.

Once we divided into groups by years of survival for a celebratory march around the grounds, a powerful picture of hope came into focus. The woman who shouted “I want to be you” summed it up so well. The impact of seeing so many women so strong and healthy after so many years gave the newly-diagnosed hope that their stories could be similar.

At times I am reluctant to share my story, feeling like a broken record. The thing that keeps me pressing forward is knowing there may be someone, like that unknown woman who called out to me, who may find encouragement in it.

I hope you can join us as I will be participating in the IG Live Celebration Party for this issue on Friday evening, March 17 at 7 pm Eastern (4 pm Pacific) @wildfire_bc_magazine

*****UPDATE!*****

This event was recorded and you can find it here.

I recommend you listen to the whole event, but if you are pressed for time, I join the conversation just past 56:30 on the countdown timer on the app.
