Making a Difference: See Jane Write
This week I’m combining a Making a Difference post with my thankfulness theme for this month.
In general, I am not very adventurous. When I travel, I am not the type who goes off exploring on my own; I would rather have a guide who knows the lay of the land. As I embarked on my writing ventures, it was new territory for me. I am thankful that I found people to help me along the way.
See Jane Write (SJW) is a website and community for women writers. The founder, Javacia Harris Bowser, is a blogger, a full-time freelance writer, an award-winning columnist, and a lovely person as well. She believes that all women have a story worth sharing, and SJW helps provide the tools and resources to bring those stories to fruition.
I first encountered Javacia through Wildfire Magazine; she had been the guest editor for one of their issues. Although she is a young cancer survivor, she started SJW almost a decade earlier, so I knew from the start that it was not a cancer group, it was a writing group. I joined the SJW Collective hoping for help with my writing. Now, almost a year later, I find myself part of a community of exceptional women with a wide range of expertise and goals. The virtual meetings are a marvelous time of learning and encouragement. Sometimes we laugh, sometimes we cry, but every time we are blessed to be with each other.
Two years ago, I would not have considered myself a writer. With the help I’ve received from the SJW Collective, I now can claim the titles of published writer and blogger. Could I have done it without them? There’s no way to know for sure, but it has been great to have the companionship of these dear friends along the way.
