For the Gals!
Happy Galentine's Day, dear readers!
Happy what? Today is a day that celebrates female friendships. According to Wikipedia, Galentine’s can be observed any day, but popular culture has given us this non-official holiday, typically observed on February 13.
Some choose to view this as an anti-Valentine’s celebration, but that doesn't have to be the case. I prefer to see it as a way to remind ourselves of how much the gals in our lives mean to us and to take the time to communicate that thought to those we hold dear. We all like to know we are appreciated.
I’ve heard it said that being a breast cancer survivor enrolls you into the worst club which happens to have the nicest members. Many people I have met along this journey I now number among my dearest friends. Am I glad that I had to go through it? Of course not, but I deeply value what I have gained in relationships along the way.
Do we need another day for marketers to try to get us to part with our hard earned money for their merchandise or greeting cards? No, but don’t let them keep you from celebrating the precious gift of female companionship.
So, even if you aren't a fan of contrived holidays, I encourage you to take advantage of this day. Take the time to reach out to one or more of the gals in your life and let them know how much you appreciate them. You might just make their day.
